He was ordered to pay $33,000 to the Internal Revenue Service, according to court documents. Hye Paik entered into a plea agreement for pretrial diversion. </p><p class="paragraph-block article-body undefined text-left">Min Paik allegedly paid $19,000 in cash to a Port of San Francisco employee and handed over envelopes stuffed with thousands of dollars in the presence of the FBI agent, according to court documents.</p></div><div class="floats"><p class="paragraph-block article-body undefined text-left">The city attorney’s office and port this year issued a suspension order against Nick’s Lighthouse for up to five years, which would bar the restaurant from bidding on or entering into contracts with the city.</p><p class="paragraph-block article-body undefined text-left">A spokesperson said the port is exploring “options” for the vacated space.<br/>While Nick’s Lighthouse has left the space it has <u><a href="https://www.sfgate.com/food/article/Nick-s-Lighthouse-has-sweet-fish-and-sourdough-5063086.php" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">reportedly occupied<span class="sr-only"> (opens in new tab)</span></a></u> since the 1930s, it is still serving up hot sourdough bowls of clam chowder in its new space in The Cannery.</p></div><div class="!p-0 !m-0"></div></div>

Christine Pelosi steps out of her mom’s shadow and jumps into race for state Senate

Nancy Pelosi announced last week that <u><a data-post-id="604ba632-1027-424b-a9ca-b2431b08c15c" href="https://sfstandard.com/2025/11/06/nancy-pelosi-retirement-joe-biden-feinstein-democrats-election/">she will not seek a 21st term in the House</a></u>, leaving the fight for her seat to state Sen. Scott Wiener, progressive tech millionaire Saikat Chakrabarti, and potentially Supervisor Connie Chan.</p><p class="paragraph-block article-body undefined text-left">In a 42-second video posted to social media Monday, the younger Pelosi noted her credentials for the state Senate while listing priorities she’d focus on as a legislator, including consumer and women’s rights and plans to help immigrants and survivors of gun violence. During her time as chair of the California Democratic Party’s women’s caucus, Pelosi played a key role in elevating conversations around the #MeToo movement and the creation of a <u><a href="https://www.sfchronicle.com/politics/article/California-legislature-workplace-harassment-17078756.php" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Workplace Conduct Unit<span class="sr-only"> (opens in new tab)</span></a></u> in the state Legislature.</p></div><div class="!p-0 !m-0"></div><div class="floats"><p class="paragraph-block article-body undefined text-left">“What do we do when our freedoms are under attack?” Pelosi asks in her campaign launch video. “We speak up, we fight back, and we organize power for the people, and that’s what I want to do for you.”</p></div><figure class=""><div class="flex justify-center"></div></figure><div class="floats"><p class="paragraph-block article-body undefined text-left">Pelosi did not respond to requests for comment.</p></div><div class="floats"><p class="paragraph-block article-body undefined text-left">Wiener’s term doesn’t end until 2028, so he is in no immediate risk of losing his seat even if he’s unsuccessful in his congressional bid. That timing means there may be no rush for other candidates to jump into the fray. But a Wiener victory in next year’s runoff congressional election would open the door for Pelosi and other candidates to run for his state Senate seat in a 2027 special election.</p><p class="paragraph-block article-body undefined text-left">By announcing her candidacy so soon, Pelosi could be seeking to snag early endorsements and build a campaign war chest, a specialty of her mother, a chief fundraiser for the Democratic Party for decades.</p></div><div class="!p-0 !m-0"></div><div class="floats"><p class="paragraph-block article-body undefined text-left">Others eyeing the state Senate seat are Assemblymember Matt Haney and Supervisor Rafael Mandelman. A consultant for Haney confirmed that he is interested in running when the seat becomes available.</p><p class="paragraph-block article-body undefined text-left">Mandelman has an active campaign account for state Senate that had raised almost $124,000 by the end of July. He told The Standard he has yet to decide if he’ll follow through in seeking the seat or would defer to Haney and then run for state Assembly.</p><p class="paragraph-block article-body undefined text-left">“If Matt Haney is in fact running for state Senate, I would take a look at his Assembly seat,” Mandelman said. “He and I probably need to have a conversation. He is a very talented elected official, and I want to be supportive of him. So, lots of moving pieces.”</p><p class="paragraph-block article-body undefined text-left">David Latterman, a political analyst, suggested that Pelosi and Haney are the two most obvious candidates for state Senate. Still, only one has served in office in San Francisco.</p><p class="paragraph-block article-body undefined text-left">Haney has served on the Board of Education and the Board of Supervisors, while Pelosi worked as a deputy city attorney and assistant district attorney in San Francisco. She was also executive committeewoman for the Democratic National Committee, an elected position that involves being a delegate for the party’s national convention.</p><p class="paragraph-block article-body undefined text-left">“It always appeared [Pelosi] was trying to use the backdoor — her mom’s name — to sneak in there without having to participate in the trench warfare of San Francisco politics,” Latterman said. “The thing about San Francisco politics is you have to pay your dues. London Breed weighs run for Congress: ‘This is a once-in-a-generation opportunity’

Supervisor Connie Chan, a progressive Democrat representing the Richmond, is rumored to have an interest in running. </p></div><div class="!p-0 !m-0"></div><div class="floats"><p class="paragraph-block article-body undefined text-left">Pelosi has left tea leaves that she could back Chan by recently appearing at events with the supervisor.</p><p class="paragraph-block article-body undefined text-left">There could be many complicating factors for Breed, who previously served as District 5 supervisor after running the African American Art and Culture Complex. Her past campaigns have been run by Maggie Muir, who’s now working for Wiener. The state senator also has quickly amassed <u><a data-post-id="93c5f2af-5ba9-4baa-bb1e-ed60e09de726" href="https://sfstandard.com/2025/10/24/scott-wiener-raises-730k-first-day-campaign-nancy-pelosi/">a campaign warchest</a></u> of roughly $1.7 million while scooping up endorsements from City Attorney David Chiu and Attorney General Rob Bonta, as well as pro-growth advocacy groups like SF YIMBY. But Rafael Mandelman, president of the San Francisco Board of Supervisors, confirmed that he had heard the rumor Thursday while attending a retreat in Sonoma organized by political affairs group Platinum Advisors.</p><p class="paragraph-block article-body undefined text-left">At the event, former Mayor Willie Brown told attendees that Breed had called him that morning to say she was giving hard thought to running for Congress.</p><p class="paragraph-block article-body undefined text-left">“I can’t offer her advice,” Mandelman told The Standard. “I’m supporting Scott Wiener.”</p><p class="paragraph-block article-body undefined text-left"><u><a data-post-id="f32f1d26-b8c8-4109-80b0-dda36f90d5c4" href="https://sfstandard.com/2025/06/20/mayor-london-breed-aspen-institute-consulting/">Since leaving office</a></u>, Breed has worked as a policy adviser to the Aspen Institute and helped with community outreach to seniors and families during the protracted government shutdown.</p><p class="paragraph-block article-body undefined text-left">“I am a public servant, and it’s what I care about the most, so when Pelosi made the decision she wasn’t going to run, I got a lot of calls from a lot of different kinds of people,” Breed said. “It’s been very humbling. Former SF Human Rights chief faces 31 ethics charges over gifts, contracts scandal

Much of the money involved stemmed from the San Francisco Dream Keeper Initiative, a signature program of former Mayor London Breed, overseen by Davis, that injected tens of millions of dollars into the Black community.</p></div><div class="!p-0 !m-0"></div><div class="floats"><p class="paragraph-block article-body undefined text-left">The city Ethics Commission’s executive director, Patrick Ford, on Thursday published 31 counts against Davis, alleging she accepted prohibited gifts from nonprofits and other entities, failed to disclose them, violated her department’s policies, and breached laws on conflicts of interest by awarding contracts to those from whom she received gifts.</p><p class="paragraph-block article-body undefined text-left">While the nature of Davis’ alleged misconduct isn’t new — city investigations have detailed the claims against her for more than a year — Thursday’s announcement marks the first time monetary fines may loom over her since she left her post.</p><p class="paragraph-block article-body undefined text-left">The Ethics Commission found that Davis in 2023 accepted a seven-night stay at a rental house in Martha’s Vineyard that was paid for by Collective Impact. Around the same time, Collective Impact was accepting grants from Davis’ department — making it a restricted source of gifts for her. Around the same time, she approved thousands of dollars in payments to the school from her department for housing, catering, and other expenses.</p><p class="paragraph-block article-body undefined text-left">The counts were part of a probable-cause determination signed by Ford that spawns a public hearing before the Ethics Commission’s five-member board, which will determine whether Davis violated the law and faces financial penalties. </p><p class="paragraph-block article-body undefined text-left">Davis and her attorney did not respond to a request for comment.   </p><p class="paragraph-block article-body undefined text-left">A similar case occurred in 2023, when a former city department leader was found to be accepting gifts from Recology while she was engaged in business with the trash company. ‘It terrorizes our communities’: Lurie slams feds over planned Bay Area immigration raids
